Sanford is a historic city located beside beautiful Lake Monroe and the St. Johns River. This ideal location gives Sanford an idyllic landscape with waterfront access, a walkable downtown, and a lively event scene with retail and dining options. Henry Shelton Sandford founded Sanford in 1870 and planned to make the area “The Gate City of South Florida.” Later, Sanford became a lucrative town with a train station, hotel, and harbors. For a unique taste of Florida, residents visit Loggerhead Distillery. Started by two Florida natives, this craft distillery is the perfect place for locals to grab a nightcap and sip on unique cocktails.
